Remember The Titans @ UGC Cinema, Ipswich

A huge money-earner in America but will a film about American Football be a hit this side of the pond or be any good? We took a look.

STARRING: Denzel Washington, Will Patton, Wood Harris, Ryan Hurst, Craig Kirkwood.

LINE ON THE POSTER: History is written by the winners

WHAT HAPPENS: It's the early 70' and Herman Boone (Washington) has just ousted the hugely popular and successful Bill Yoast (Patton) as Head Coach of the School Football side T.C Williams High Titans. The reason, the school is newly integrated, with Black and White pupils, and his appointment is to appease the local black community. However Boone is far greater than that and sees though the race divide, he knows he can win and achieve but can his players see through it? The tension is high and the players must come together, put aside all their differences to work as a team in order to succeed.

ANY GOOD?: Not bad at all, 'Remember The Titans' is a really great 'feel-good' move that is totally predictable but nevertheless very entertaining. Denzel Washington is great as always and Will Patton provides fantastic support as the white coach who goes against his old ways and the his friends in his support for coach Boone and for the good of the team. The rest of the cast is mainly made up of, as yet, unknowns and they all pull of good performances. Plus add to that a great early 70's vibe and an absolutely killer soundtrack of Soul and Rock faves from the time and this film can't but help cheer you up.

BEST BIT: When the Titans defeat the team, with a racist coach, who think they're big and hard but come apart when playing against passion.

INTERESTING FACT: The film is actually based on a true story about America's first racially integrated High School American Football Team.

LIKED IT, TRY: On Any Given Sunday, Platoon or All The Right Moves
